The Beltane Choice

ImageThe Beltane Choice by Nancy Jardine

Pages: 150

The Beltane Choice is a Novel by Nancy Jardine which details the growing relationship between Nara, a princess of the Selgovae and Lorcan the second eldest son of the leader of the Brigantes. On a revenge expedition into Selgovae territory, Lorcan stumbles across Nara, after rescuing her from a tree he finds out that she is a Selgovae and after a hot encounter he discovers that she is a virgin. As they travel together their relationship grows and grows. Nancy does an excellent job of portraying the growing emotions of the two main characters. The book was set in a very interesting historical period and the author used this to her advantage. The one negative that I really found whilst I was reading was that at times I found the plot hard to follow and had to read over sections to make sure I understood the situation. That aside it was a good read. To summarize this is not the type of book that I would normally pick up but ……

I give this book 3.5 stars

I received this Ebook for review by the author. At first I was unsure on whether I would enjoy the book or not, it appeared to be heavily centred around the historical occurrings of the 12th century. However a couple of pages into the book, my mind changed. Historical fiction and any history in general to be honest is not of interest to me, however I soon became attached and grew a liking for the character Lady Cornella and later Corinne. The plot was ever growing and there was a few changes in events fitted into this short novel. If I had one fault for The King’s Heart it would be, at times I felt there was too many characters at once in places, and on a few occasions had to reread parts to make sure I was aware of who was doing what. However, Lezlie Word Tyson is very descriptive in her writing and readers can expect to be present alongside the characters, feel their pain and suffering.

I do not hesitate in awarding The King’s Heart

Spartacus by Ben Kane

Date Finished: 11th September 2012

Pages: 467

I picked up this book after receiving as message from Ben on twitter, and I am so glad that I did. The book follows a Thracian soldier, called Spartacus, who was betrayed and sold into slavery to become a gladiator. Once in the ludus Spartacus begins to plot not only his escape but also creating an army to crush Rome. This book was totally amazing. I was hooked from the first page, and was really able to connect with the characters. The fight scenes were expertly crafted and evolved in a very steady manner and didn’t seem rushed (which I have found in some books). Ben Kane did an amazing job of portraying the life of a gladiator and the troubles of raising an army. He turned a legend into a brilliant book and has become one of my all time favorite books.

I award this book 5 stars!

I was lucky enough to go to the signing of Ben Kane’s new book the Spartacus: Rebellion today and bagged myself a signed copy of the book – so happy and it was my first book signing 🙂

A meme hosted by Midnight Book Girl.

This morning I have been reading The King’s Heart by Lezlie Word Tyson.

I received this short ebook for review by the author and although it’s not my usual pick I’m actually quite enjoying it. Lady Cornella finds herself a slave to Lord Worthington and suffers at his abusive hands. Will she ever be able to get free and be a Lady again?

Look out for my review later this week!

The Turtle Boy

The Turtle Boy by Kealan Patrick Burke

Date Finished: 3/8/12

Pages: 97

Downloaded this short YA ebook rom Amazon after browsing for something light to read. After reading some of the good Amazon reviews, I decided why not. The Turtle Boy is the first in a series about Timmy Quinn and is written in the third person. The book focuses Timmy, the myths surrounding a nearby pond and the secrets behind Darryl, a boy Timmy discovered there. When it came to the ending I actually said OMG aloud and had to explain to Specs what that was all about 🙂

Full of twists and turns this ghost story will keep you interested and wanting to discover more – I now need to read the next book in the series 😀

Now go read it!!
